Outreach Programs

March of Dimes funds Teen to Teen (T2T) Peer Health Education Program

This summer and continuing through Feb. 2008, the UA National Center of Excellence in Women's Health will be training a team of 15-21 year olds to talk to other teens about basic health topics. The teens are developing their own outreach strategies that may include one-on-one or small group presentations, writing an article for a school newsletter or website, or participating in a health fair or conference. The T2T team will also be giving a workshop on "Understanding Teens and Sex" on Sept. 26, 2007 at the Arizona Women's Conference. For more information, email wcoe@email.arizona.edu

The Latina Family Partnership, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, Inc., is a collaboration between the UA National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (CoE), the Latina Institute, and the Tucson Unified School District's Title I program, the Neighborhood Coordinators/ Promotoras del Barrio. (NC/PdelB) Our shared vision is to promote wellness, improve health, and foster education and cultivate leadership among Latina women and girls. The UA CoE will provide health experts and role models, train promotoras, furnish curricula and other materials to both women and girls of each program, perform research and evaluation, and foster a bridge from the university to the Latina community. Both NC/PdelB and the Latina Institute foster education and leadership through their core programs in a culturally relevant, community-tailored manner. While NC/PdelB promotoras bring health/wellness information from the UA CoE to Latina women in the community, the Latina Institute targets rural sixth grade Latina girls.

Community Partners Meetings

The UA National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (CoE) held its first Community Partners meeting on March 15, 2005. Four other meetings with community partners have been held on 10/27/05, 3/15/06, 10/25/06, and 4/13/07. The relationships that have formed have resulted in numerous collaborations and referrals. These meetings further our efforts to serve the community as a communication hub and resource for women's health issues.
